…the Borden Bridge

On a fall 1979 evening, my college roommate Lance Brown and I drove east over the Borden bridge near Saskatoon when he asked me a question I ponder daily. It rang loudly  today when the federal government approved the extension of the Trans Mountain Pipeline. While we may be years away from oil gushing through cylinders covering hundreds of thousands of kilometres and the equal amount of time  — even longer, perhaps — before the national economy is impacted … and, we wait, Lance’s profound question is most timing.

“Where would we be without hope?”
